Yann LeCun and his startup unexpectedly stepped out of the shadows and have already completed their first funding round, raising over a billion dollars. More precisely, the amount was slightly higher — about $1.03 billion. At the same time, the company’s valuation at the time of fundraising reached approximately $3.5 billion. It is also important to emphasize that the project has been in existence for less than three months, and products are not yet on the market.
Investors included major names such as Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital — and Jeff Bezos himself also contributed. For a seed stage, this amount is truly impressive — it may even be a record for European startups.
Additionally, it has become known who is behind the project: an official list of co-founders has been published.
Now we just have to wait: who will release something tangible first — LeCun or his colleague Sutskever.
