Recently, I took a look at the latest version of Cascadeur and was impressed with how it works. You set two poses for your character, and then artificial intelligence automatically creates smooth interpolation between them, adding in-between movements. Everything happens in real-time — you can freely change the initial poses, add new key points, or adjust the already created animation. The result is very cool. Of course, this system may not be suitable for rubber characters or traditional animation workflows, but for anthropomorphic heroes, everything looks very natural and organic.
The coolest part is that all animation generation happens directly on your PC, locally. There are no subscriptions like Adobe Photoshop, no tokens or credit systems — everything is built into the license and runs right on your machine. I especially appreciate this because it provides a sense of complete autonomy and eliminates unnecessary dependence on cloud services.
Of course, the question arises: what are the hardware requirements? Is everything processed on the CPU or does it utilize the GPU? It would be logical to assume that the GPU is involved, considering the processing speed.
Another interesting feature is their ability to render skeletons in RGB format using OpenPose on a black background. These data can then be used with ControlNet to generate new images or entire videos — quite convenient for using such animations as a basis for further work.
If you have never worked with 3D editors before, the Cascadeur interface might surprise you — there are hundreds of control elements: icons, clickable zones, settings. But despite its apparent complexity, it’s truly a unique tool. Although I considered writing about it as the best in its class, honestly, there are almost no competitors — it’s a one-of-a-kind creation.
