A question has arisen in a recently emerging discussion:
Next week, a very large company will decide on launching a program to implement large language models (LLMs) into operational processes. And it’s interesting to see what has happened recently in the field of applying LLMs and agents specifically in accounting, auditing, or finance — what’s new, exciting, and being discussed?
Below, I shared my opinion. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts, especially if you have a good understanding of the finance sector and have seen something truly worthwhile.
There is an amusing paradox here. Usually, all the news and hype are associated with large corporations. But at the same time, the bigger the company, the fewer actual implementations it has — mostly due to inertia and fear of risks. For example, there is the Mastercard Agent Pay project — it was announced loudly, but in practice, it never really took off.
That’s why since February, I have been working somewhat less closely with large corporations: their pace of movement is so slow that it often hampers the development of the entire market.
On the other hand, small enterprises are adopting these technologies more actively. They are restructuring accounting processes, optimizing client and document workflows with AI solutions, automating draft preparation or compliance document checks — even simple Excel reports are starting to be automated, especially in fintech, where this works very well.
However, these companies — often small or medium-sized — due to competition for advantages, cling to these innovations as a lifeline and rarely share their successes publicly.
At the same time, under the hood of most of these projects, there is nothing particularly new. These are the proven patterns we have discussed extensively in the chat and which I cover in detail in my course. The main thing is to understand how to adapt them to new processes and tasks.
These are my thoughts. Share your experience or perspectives — I’d be interested to hear different assessments of the situation.
