Pentagon AI Claude Used for Violent Plot | National Security Risks

Sudden Uproar: The Pentagon Used Artificial Intelligence Claude to Plan the Kidnapping of the Venezuelan President.

According to WSJ, Claude was integrated with the Palantir Technologies analytics platform, which has long served as a tool for U.S. intelligence agencies. It was on this system that the model was used to analyze intelligence data and develop specific operational scenarios.

Interestingly, Claude became the first third-party AI permitted to handle such classified information. However, the company’s policy explicitly prohibits the use of their technology for violent purposes, weapons development, or surveillance. Nonetheless, the model’s capabilities in analysis and planning clearly caused some confusion.

The startup has already expressed its protests against this application of its product. In response, the Secretary of Defense announced that the department is considering revising or even terminating contracts with Anthropic. This pertains to an agreement signed last summer worth approximately $200 million, under which the company was supposed to handle issues related to U.S. national security.
