Alexander Wang shared his opinion on the AI industry situation and stated that although the US currently maintains a lead in hardware and algorithms, Asia may surpass them in the near future due to several key factors.
The first factor is espionage. Since 2018, China has been actively implementing a large-scale government program to develop AI, during which they have made efforts to insert disruptive agents into American companies. For example, there have been cases where an engineer from Google stole technical documentation on AI chip development and used this information to start a business in China. At the same time, Chinese authorities carefully monitor their scientists, isolating them and conducting checks.
The second factor is data annotation. In China, more than two million people are working on preparing annotated data, whereas in the US, this number is smaller—around one hundred thousand. As a result, China has already formed a much denser dataset for AI training.
Finally, the information warfare. China actively uses AI technologies to create powerful tools for shaping opinions and managing public sentiment, turning this into large-scale manipulation.
These are the words of a future head of AI at Meta. Do you believe this?
