✔️ Starting June 18, 2025, GitHub Copilot will begin charging for usage of advanced queries.
GitHub announced that from next month, premium queries in Copilot will be included in a paid subscription for all plans. Users will have monthly limits for such queries, and any unused quota will expire at the end of the period.
These premium queries are necessary for working with high-quality models, such as GPT-4.5 or Claude Opus 4, where each request is calculated based on complexity. For example, GPT-4.5 consumes about 50 units per call. The free tier offers a limit of 2,000 auto-completions and 50 premium queries per month. All dialogues are also counted as premium.
Paid subscriptions provide unlimited access to simpler models (e.g., GPT-4.1, GPT-4o). Additional requests beyond the limit cost approximately $0.04 each. Once the limit is exhausted, users can switch to basic models, with performance depending on server load.

✔️ OpenAI is developing safety measures for AI use in biological research.
The company warns that future models may pose risks of technology being used to produce biological weapons. To address this, OpenAI is implementing a system of measures: training models to ignore dangerous requests, introducing automatic monitoring of suspicious activity, engaging expert groups and “Red Teams” to identify vulnerabilities.
Additionally, the company collaborates with scientific laboratories and government agencies to enhance safety in DNA synthesis and early pathogen detection. Scientific professionals will have dedicated access to powerful tools under strict usage controls. A biosecurity summit will be held in July to unite efforts from various countries and private organizations against emerging threats.

✔️ Wix has acquired Base44 for $80 million.
Popular website builder Wix purchased Base44 — a platform for Vibe coding that allows creating applications using text prompts. The deal is valued at $80 million with potential additional payments until 2029 based on user growth or revenue.
After the acquisition, Base44 will continue operating independently and retain all its tools: database management, authentication system, cloud storage, and hosting. The platform currently has around 40,000 users and recently introduced an AI-powered chatbot to facilitate development.

✔️ Google uses billions of YouTube videos to train its AI models.
It has been confirmed that Google employs an archive of 20 billion YouTube videos to train its AI systems, including Veo 3. The company states that only part of the content is used and that agreements with video creators are observed, though specific details are not disclosed. Video creators cannot opt out of their content being included in training datasets.
Experts express concerns about potential conflicts: AI trained on creators’ content might compete with them in the content market. Some channel owners have already voiced dissatisfaction over being unaware of this usage.
Every day, tens of millions of new videos are uploaded to YouTube — a potential data source for machine learning algorithms. The regulation of these processes and protection of copyright remains a pressing issue: YouTube claims transparency in its policies and content usage guidelines.

✔️ MiniMax introduced an upgraded video model Hailuo 02.
During the “MiniMax Week” event, where companies release multiple innovations in a short period, MiniMax showcased the second generation of its video model Hailuo 02 with an improved NCR architecture. The model has roughly tripled in size in terms of parameters — developers assure increased quality and diversity of generated content. Technical details about NCR are not yet available.
Hailuo 02 performs well on complex tasks: in testing by Artificial Analysis Video Arena, it ranked only below Bytedance’s Seedance model and outperformed Google Veo 3.
Three video generation options are available: 768p resolution for 6 or 10 seconds, and Full HD (1080p) for six seconds. The API price for a short clip is approximately $0.28 at 768p and around $0.49 at Full HD. The model can be accessed via web interface, mobile app, or API.
